Tesla's measurement instruments mystery

Tesla had problem with measurement instruments.
They burned a lot.
After lots of thinking he made an instrument which did not burn,
even heavily stressed.

One of those was in his lab and reacted on distant storm.
While ordinary measurement instruments did not reacted on presence of storm or such,
this one did.

So, if the new design of instrument reacted on distant storm,
what will happen if the storm is above house?
How much output that instrument would gave?

Storm is a big spark, right?

Kapanadze said that he took the idea from Tesla's work,
and made it useful.

What changes Tesla made to his instruments to act differently,
and can not burn?
