From this did you not understand that I am quite aware that each cell will drop the voltage equal to the number of cells you have....

As far as the neutral plates are concerned?Surface area is everything when making Hydrogen/Hydroxy. The more plates you have the more surface area you have to make the hydrogen. In a series cell you normally only have 1 Positive plate and 1 Negative plate.
+nnnnnn- this is 8 ss plates with 7 cells. Count your fingers, how many spaces do you have between your fingers..4..
The lowest possible voltage to make hydrogen is 1.24 volts per cell. So in this case you would need a minimum of 7x1.24=8.68 volts.
Ironhead?s example has 19 plates with 18 cells. 36 volts means 2 volts per cell.
Also in a series cell each side of the N plate has a + and ? potential.
This would be +plate +n- +n- +n- +n- -plate 

I'm waiting for the next question to be posted "why are there so many neutral plates.. 
It's great to see that along with a smart bunch of guys out here, you also have good taste in music too...

Then why are you asking about the neutral plates, if you already know?

"Neutral" is a relative term as are "positive" and "negative".
