I am currently looking at the 286MB high res JP2 image of the face via photoshop CS3 ..

The markers look like depressions or hills, and they look circular .. buried or eroded towers/underground entrances??

I wondered myself, when NASA released the first high res pics of the
Mars face, how badly the pixels were distributed inside the released 256 gray levels pics
and only around 30 grey levels were used.
So the histogram was very bad spreaded inside these pics.
