hi gp,

not sure what you where saying, but one requirement for the race was to be able to go directly into the wind powered only by that wind.  you could have a storage device, but it had to be empty at the start.

that is not an wind powerd car.
an air-palne ist also not wind powerded.

als thsi are mot driven objects.

an sailimg boat is wind powered

Actually GP, I think the ones on above link don't have motors. I can see why you might have thought they did though. Normally this type of vehicle has a sail:

That's the first time I've seen one with propellers.

so my thread is to (miss) understand.
if you will use the wind on an normal driven car
with adaping an wind-wheel on in to reveive
additional electic energy.
Sorry, my missunderstanding
GP

I had the same understanding as you. I guess Dave45 will have to clarify if he meant to use existing wind to power the car or if he meant to use the wind generated by the motion of the car to power the car.

Why don't they put wind generators on electric cars seems as they would more than power the car.

You cant be serious?

The wind resistance from the wind generator would have a diminishing return.  IE it takes much more wind to generate the force to move the car that speed. This is why cars get better gas mileage at 50 than they do at 80. The wind resistance eats it.

That is true based on the automobile designs we now have but they could be designed better to use the winds exit as a push to help offset the resistance that is created. Wind generators could be placed in channels that are designed to help offset the resistance and they may not add any more resistance then a design that does not utilize the winds exit as a push but then we would have to see which is more efficient, the winds exit as a push or the power that the wind generator produces. The concepts do make for some interesting experiments.

We must remember that we can never create more energy then the energy used unless we are using energy to release energy that is stored in a substance and or magnetic field that contains more energy then the energy used.
