Hi All,
a friend of mine had bought 1.5 years back a Tom Tom One navigator device
at Ebay for a normal price as a new device.

When she got the device there was a map included from TomTom for Germany, Switzerland, Austria
on a SD card which had the normal TomTom Logo sticked to it.

Then she tried to register the device and map with the enclosed normal
keys which were delivered with it.

This never worked and so she never could use the navigator device !

As she was too busy at this time to call customer support and you always
have to pay for it to call them and wait on the phone line  to get help,
she put the device in the locker and bought a different navigator device later.

Recently she gave the device to me and asked, if I could
try to register and thus enable the device for her.

Now I contacted tech support from TomTom and
it took almost a month with various emails going back and
forth to get a definitive answer, that the SD card with the map
is not longer supported and I should buy a new map
online from them for HALF THE PRICE of the whole unit !

So this  is a real scam to me.
My friend bought the device NEW on Ebay
and the registration never worked and thus
the device never could be used.

So is there any other solution to get public domain
maps for a TomTom One device to work ?

I wouldn´t have posted this if I could have convinced that
I could get the device to work for paying maybe 20 US$ for
an updated map, but now TomTom wants to charge me
55.60Eu, which is about 60 US$  just for a working map...

It is hillarious to buy such a crap device,
if the company makes such registration horrors !

Regards, Stefan.

This is the main reason why people pirate and why the whole registration crap and DRM should be abolished. If they scammed you just scam them back. Download the maps yourself from an illegal website and tell TomTom to care for its customers or fuck off  :D.

I have a TOMTOM one v3 and i have never registrated it.
It's working fine for over a year now.

Every device has it's own ID.
You need to download the maps you want and then use a small program to overwrite your device ID into the software and then upload it to the card or directly onto the device and the device will verify it's ID with the ID on the software and if it's a match it will just work fine.
It's that easy.

Theres plenty of key generator software about. Type the device code then it gives you the unlock code and you are done.

It cant be illegal since you have the legit software and hardware.

Well, I had not had much time today, so I finally bought a new map from
them for 40 Euros and installed it now. :'(

Okay, now it works, but all these problems and delays could have been avoided,
if there would have been not such a bad registration process and such a bad tech support...
