btw, I've neither smited nor applauded anyone, as I refuse to use this type of system for providing feedback. I prefer simple direct discussion because I feel if you do not have the courage or desire to comment directly with a message, you should not comment at all.

Hmmm, that brings an interesting thought. Perhaps only having the applaud thing would work. That would perhaps in some small way reward those who are more positive. ... I don't know. We need more good moderators. We just need to clone more Stefans.
