Well, if you use the load coil to charge the 4.5v bat instead of powering the led...  Use the load coil to charge a cap and use a 7805 5v regulator IC to charge the 4.5v.

Ive noticed that fly swatter circuit easily get busted  either due to long charging/ and output used in continuous mode
a better circuit is appropriate for the next experiment to proceed
lost my lawton circuit board   ... need to build again     any schematics please   simple one as  Peter linderman used?
