Escap has been manufacturing basket wound motor designs like that construction since the 1970's.

Its strange.  In the pic below, also from links given, think of it as turning clockwise.

The amature pole no.3, is about to be shunted by the brush if the rotor spins more clockwise.  ??? What happens when we shunt a winding in a DC motor while turning? Especially when it is very close to the stator magnet at the time. Seems like a problem to me.  ;)

And also, the pole no.3 winding, it is in series with the no.2 winding while no.3 winding is closer to the stator mag on the right, but winding no.1 is not in series with another pole but is further away from the left stator mag.  So some of the windings are only pulling so much current due to series connection and some have full current some of the time. Both situations some of the time for each winding, and shunting each winding in between. Lol. seems like a good way to suppress efficiency.

Yeah, it seems like they have been around for some time.  Im just putting it down here as an example of better efficiency. No hysteresis, etc.

These are not the every day motors of days gone by. Now they are in everything. Probably the largest market is cell phones vibration. Anything small.

So if we make big ones, can we enjoy better efficiencies by going coreless? ;D

It looks as though the small coreless motors may also do some coil shorting. So far of the motor pics Ive seen only 4 commutator pads, so 4 windings. There must be shorting of windings when the brushes contact 2 pads at the same time. Will have to look at that to see whats up. If there is shorting of the windings and this shorting creates any losses, then what does that mean in terms of a motor that is 98% eff if we can eliminate the coil shorting, and remove those losses if they exist?

How to eliminate the oil shorting. Individually isolated commutators for each winding?

If it were only 2 windings, each with opposing pads, then no coil shorting.  ;)
