  T's very first posts on this thread were about trying to understand/replicate Floyd Sweet's VTA.  I'd reread these to start.

  Perhaps the setup could be simplified; instead of 2ea 2000 turn kicker coils, you'd just use 1 between both bifilar coils.  Then instead of using magnets on the VTA, you'd wind over simple transformer cores and drive at anti-resonance.


  The best answer is the one that explains the most.  Why wind CW and CCW coils?  Why have coils at 90deg to the bifilars?  What purpose does the magnet serve?  etc, etc.     Without having some concepts behind operation, it's like trying to build an internal combustion engine by looking at a picture of a car.   My own theories are fairly complete at this point.  If anyone has questions, I'll explain best I can.

Please move on Reiyuki, i'd would like to read your complete theory and surely some others.

It's basically charging an inductor, discharging into a cap.  Sounds like Tito as well, with a few twists of course.
One of the things that's stayed with me is Mags' reference to Tito saying that the zener diode was taking the place of the spark gap. Once the voltage reached the zener's threshold, pop! 
What if we had a multi stranded (i.e., charging in parallel) core, discharging through a zener, then into a cap, and a few other coil arrangements to boost things and perhaps feed back into the system...
