Are you sure you did it properly?
An early experimenter, Gustave Le Bon in one of his book ("Evolution of Matter", "Evolution of Forces") in one of his experiments describes shielding: even very thin, irregular, but long enough slots leak certain waves, while much wider but short openings/crevices, do not.

I think members like @verpies, @ronotte and others are better to help you in that regard. My EE acumen is greatly lacking and would not want to steer you wrong way. Maybe if you put up a diagram of what you are doing, others will be able to comment of alternative methods.
