I doubt it. Like all experimenters, he will have produced various coil setups. Its more likely that like Romero, self-running success was elusive, so why not fake-it. The laughing may have been the thought that with the box lid opened, some may think this device could be the Holy Grail!

However, I do think that Jack's transformer ideas should be followed-up with a mix of 50hz grid / inverter and HV/HF and a sandwich of different core material, just in case there is any validity in what TK is presenting.
