When I was a teenager, my Dad told me, while driving a relatively older car, auto spark plugs were doing the same thing as spark gaps and there was a radio playing to prove it.  Static (popping, snapping sounds over the radio in time with firing of the spark plugs.
He said on newer autos, there was installed a capacitor to eliminate that problem.  So ramset is correct.  Placing a Faraday cage around a potential electromagnetic emitter should also get rid of the problem.  Power can be harvested from the Cage to a capacitor through a diode to a battery before being well grounded.

@Jeanna: Don´t worry too much about the Ignition Coil, just like Bolt sais use cheap parts, after all its a bunch of wire wound up. My ignition coil was like 15 euros from a junkyard (see pic).

Using something like RF shielding might be advisable when your transmission level exceeds a certain amplification or you will become "most favourite neighbour of the month"  or the russians will get angry that you inadvertently jam their radar 
Maybe some aluminum foil can already help reduce it, however shielding is a science for itself, as to do it 100% the thing needs to be nearly hermetically sealed. Maybe first test the "jamming range" by putting a radio next to your transmitter (coil) and see if its really that bad.

D. Smith might not even have run his circuit at that high frequency as the RF can get effectively introduced into the impulse bursts by the spark gap even though the impulse frequency is low.
I have read that in a scientific publication about Tesla transformers.

But i am also trying to hit the coil with RF first, which has so far only yielded in frying my pulse gen ICs by the kickback, so i had to come up with a triple safe kickback protection circuit hehe.

   Just remember that auto coils ground both coils  at the - post.

Just the fly back from the primary will give you a good thump.

At Electricme's suggestion (Jim) I have started a topic whereby folks from around the world can make a simple earth battery and put a scope to it and log their results there.

Jim has shown that there are very strange waveforms and that they change throughout the day, week and even month.  So, it was his idea to try to compile a lot of data from all over the world to compare the shots to.  Things like thunderstorms and earthquakes will have an effect on these waves and it will be very interesting to see what those are from around the planet.
