I just finish my LMC 555 oscillator, it work great for tuning My Tesla coil. It works at 3.6MHz maximum.

So then a real earth ground connection is not necessarily needed.
Until now, i am (like Baroutologos) not even close to your output with my set-up.
The reason can be the different dimensions of coils or the ferrite values.
Mine has Frequency range : 0,1 MHz - 2 MHz
Al-value 140 nH/n2


Maybe i need a ferrite material which is made for higher frequencies.
Also the material of the coil former could be important, mine is PVC.
I use now MJE15030 transistor.

EDIT: I added a 2nd power supply instead of a battery which wasn't in too good shape
anymore and with full 24 Volt the lamp is brighter at an amp draw of 1.4 Amps.
Looks like the higher the voltage, the better, which is of course best controlled with a higher
secondary turn count. Will make a new secondary with some insane turn count now, just to see.

@Romero : Thank you for sharing your experimental finding in regards to the coil capacitors.

When I was about 8 years old, my Dad got me 2 electronics kits from a guy that worked for him. Its funny at that age with the things one comes up with.

My crystal radio circuits needed ground to work. But, I was tired of poking a post in the ground to make it work away from home.  I was 8  ;]

I experimented with grounding to metal parts. I found that I just needed something to ground to, a pipe, a few feet of angle iron, a pan.  ;]

So, it is the need for a reservoir for the AC circuit to act upon.  The larger the (suspended in air example) pipe/angle iron/pan, the better the signal from the crystal radio. Like a single plate of a capacitor, as in the globes atop of tuned Tesla coils.

A good earth ground did give better signal output than the pipe/angle/pan, but it worked impressively well.  ;]

Maybe the metal pot size could be a part of tuning, possibly.  ;]

Its got me thinkin

possibly the crystal set could be run using just 2 antenna, use one on the ground side.
The ant's could be setup so in reference to the radio transmitter, 1 was out of phase of the other. could work.  The distances between ant's might be inconvenient for AM radio. If your moving around portable.  ;]

But think of Sems setup.  If we have 2 identical coil setups, and one of them we use opposite polarity to the primary of the second setup. Now we could connect the, what was, ground wires, to each other. Push-pull.  No earth ground needed.  ;]
