The brevity and lucidity of your words is very refreshing.

How do you propose to increase the amplitude of the oscillations in L2 after SW1 is opened?
Especially how to ensure that the envelope of the oscillations is trumpet shaped?

Conventional LC oscillators (or reflected traveling-wave oscillators), that are pumped by a constant voltage stimulus, have an asymptotic wine-glass shaped envelope of the oscillations (as LtBolo has rightly noticed)

A building waveform ringing into the trumpet shape caused by a coil (or many) shortings.  Covering a coil with copper tubes, each over the last with the original wire within and shorted in turn under a delay which cascades the outer shieldings.  This is a controlled capture of HF and if these are fed with static whimhurst charges contained within bifilars then we will have a very different type of charge.  One that is compressable and when current is then combined with it there is NO PLACE for the current to fit except that it rapidly expands the compressed static field.  This will increase all aspects of the field (voltage, frequency and current).   It will be like or is exactly nuclear magnetic resonance of an electrical static charge.  Causing it to change from on type into another type field.  When it expands it WILL expand in all directions spontaneously.  Including the bifilar coils that were originally charged.

This may cause a plasma burst when it transpires.  If a coaxial cable is covered with a copper tube then insulated and covered with an aluminum tube it will be capacitive and able to contain the building waveform.  A large surface plane will be needed to attract the additional in rush of energy.

I think Romero's drawing has caused a misunderstanding:

The circuit diagram shows two batteries connected in series.
If these are 12 Volt batteries, 3 Voltage potentials will become available: 0 V, 12 V and 24 V.
I think the schematic shows the emitter connected to the 12 V potential - where the two black lines cross between the batteries. You could say that this connection was not clearly marked by a dot in Romero's first drawing. In the meantime he has marked it.

Would this resolve your objections?

On your diagram, isn't the  +HV and -HV  a constant high voltage input?
Is it AC or DC ?

For me the Rodin coil is just a very leaky coil.  Its magnetic field is not confined to the core on purpose. It poseesses a delibrate transverse magnetic field component.
An opposite coil would be a regular toroidal coil with even number of layers (wound back and forth along the circumference of the toroid core, with an equal number of windings in each layer, each winding as short as possible)
