Hi All,

Here is a crystal radio circuit similar to Marco's post number 415.  Look at variation B.

The connected part of the inductor is part of the resonant circuit.  But, the unconnected part contributes to the capacitance of the coil.  So if you were trying to build a self-resonant coil, you could fine tune its self-resonant frequency by clipping excess turns off the unconnected end.

I don't know if this contributes to the discussion.  I just discovered this great thread.

The center primary on a Tesla coil has been used it seems a long time ago. Maybe the respetable Don Smith learnt from "The boy electrician book"

Here I have a composition I made some time ago trying to understand the tesla coil construction.
I composed it from a pdf file I had and cant find now. named The boy electrician.pdf.

If anybody has it, please post it for all us newbies to read and learn.

since we are aiming for the magnetic flux
are there any design specific features that the coil would have?
features that would distinguish it from a coil designed for the elec flux?
