I would suggest that a spark gap is a thermal to electrical conversion device.  Tesla the inventor of the process Kapandenze admiitedly replicated found out that the spark gap Physical location is important relative to his primaries.  The reason this is important is because the primary is an antennae for the oscillations emitted by the spark gap.  The spark gap converts heat into coherent electromagnetic waves.  The electromagnetic waves are then captured on antennae designed to create a standing wave whose 1/4wave stands on terminals where highvoltage develops between node and antinode of the standing waves.  Voltage is a result of different charge densities PERIOD.  It does not rely on any massive particles we call electrons to move.   An electromagnetic wave in space is said to produce a current.  There are no electrons in space to move therefore we see that the current will flow between two places in space of unequal charge densities whose instantaneous values are changing.  Electromagnetic waves are produced when you have a timevarying distribution of charge.  Tesla waves are produced when you have a non time varying charge density maintained.  They produce an electrical monopole  and a magnetic field of great dimension as the magnetic and electric field is one in the same.  Of course if you move your monopole you will produce an electromagnetic wave as you now have a timevarying charging of the space your monopole moves through.

The key  is in  tuning..........
Lets take:
Standing wave is between point A and point B  for single resonance of single frequency of it.


Now lets take any two point and adjust the maximum frequency of oscillating string by.......
changing the distance between two points.


Yes mechanically nobody  do it, because in practice is inconvenient........and difficult task.
Usually, when we play with wave  we keep the distance of two points the same..
These two children.. holding ....jumping-rope holding in hands end of the rope .
So the distance between single  say vertical ( or horizontal) wire where ground is point A and end of it is point B of an antenna.
That determines resonant  of that wire.


With most of proposed explanation that includes an antenna (as  part of circuitry),we tend to
adjust property of the circuit  by LC using  capacitor....
In  dealing with  Longitudinal Wave we have no  transverse wave   properties.
So LW has length as a property and time of travel from A to B as e property.
The compression wave is a mechanically LW.
So electrically we may use analogy to mechanical wave.
 


Can than we use capacitor to tune this piece of wire to  resonance with spark gap dominating frequency or
spark gap frequency of interest.
Can we or we cant... We are not dealing with transversal wave or if we are dealing than we  are dealing with  possibly interaction of  LW to EM wave...

Due to non-DC waveform the displayed value of 0.42A could be even too high. In tent presentation the AC power comes directly from the grid (I presume) and it consumes 200mA. That's merely 44 watts input power for a 3-phase device with a output of a few hundred amps.

In 2004 tin can video the device runs for 70 seconds continuously without a fan and nobody cares even slightly about transistor heating. Could be the heat sinks are not for cooling but to have something to attach the TO-3 transistors on.

The key  is in  tuning..........
