If you are looking for something special this is first step to think about.

First you need to have concentrated magnetic field in ends of coil with this winding configuration - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFcd_QCLK5w#t=0h12m22s  Then you wind secondary near primary not on top of primary. In this mode each layer is in bifilar mode with North/North+South/South relationship and do not introduce resistance in first place.

So there is unexplored area to tinker with...

Condensing the device: Leave out the transistors. Since the 50Hz modulation is obviously done by the light blue inverter, there is nothing useful left for the two transistors to do. When there are no transistors, then there is also no real purpose for having a DC voltage, created by the transformer, the rectifier and the capacitor. Further leave out the orange coil, because this is only to connect the lamps in order to harness the energy created by the other coils, not to get the principle of work in itself.

This leaves the device with a bifilar coil (white cable, one side connected to ground), a helical coil in series with a spark gap (no tap between) connected to an unknown source of high voltage (maybe little Ruhmkorff resonator for initial start-up only), a switch and some small hidden parts in the tin can to link this together.

Since in the patent there is a black box called »Points (as distributor of an engine)« this could also refer to an interrupter mechanism à la Ruhmkorff. If TK had searched the internet with the term »Induction Coil« then - at least today - the first image found with Google is that of a Ruhmkorff coil.
