Well. what was strange was that the story changed so much... First they told that the alien came from a cave and attacked the kids...THEN  it was told that the alien came from the water and attacked a leg of one kid....
Yeah...sounds like disinformation to me.  Not surprising.

Hmmmm probably a few kids joking with a dead sloth with whom they removed its fur and made it look this way very alien like...
That would take a lot of time and effort to do, yes?  A professional taxidermist might be able to pull off such a stunt?

I always wonder with these kind of stories why there are no better pictures and videos to document it sufficiently...cause they wanna hide the truth...
That crossed my mind.  There are several books in American, and also, Ripley's Believe it or Not!, which expound upon these kinds of happenings.  Charles Fort in England was famous for this kind of thing.

Hide the truth?  Possibly.  Someone didn't want the thing preserved and have its DNA analyzed, right?

I'm merely a theoretical electronics engineer/technician for now, since I have no extra money for experimentation, but I was a professional electronics/computer technician in the past.
As a result, I have a lot of ideas, but no hard test results to back them up---for now.  That could change if I get a job locally in the Bay Area of California.

Animal cruelty perhaps? Wasn't the report that the youngsters killed the poor creature by throwing rocks at it? I could be wrong.

Could be the reason, thanks for pointing that out  ;)
Best regards.

At least I saw the video in its entirety before it was deleted.  If I didn't know better, I'd call it a conspiracy.  That critter wasn't anything normal compared to ordinary sloths.

I don't know, I never got to see the video that Stefan posted... Anyone got a duplicate ?  ;D
Best regards.

Sorry, I hadn't looked.  The video and pictures were a worldwide hit, right?

Try this:

NOTE:

Keep in mind: I'm on a borrowed computer with a software blocking 'Net Nannie' and this video may or may not last.
(Okay, it loaded and ran on this computer. 57-second commercial network news clip.  Hope it works for you.)
Re-edit:
The hind claws are curved reasonably normal for a tree sloth, but the rest of the animal is unknown to me.

Thanks for the linkage Lee  ;)

That thing is definitely Sloth-like. I have a strong feeling that it's a mutated Sloth, probably an escaped lab experiment, like a cloning experiment gone-wrong or something !
Best regards.
