the positive and negative charges (+/-), are the same as North and South. opposite one another, and together they cancel each other out. it is this zero-charge state, where they are neither north OR south, that we consider to be "neutral".
like an unmagnetized piece of steel.

remember that science labels these backwards. the proton is actually the negative (south).
