It might be difficult to place a weight evenly over the piezo. Perhaps a better idea is to place the piezo at the bottom of a vial of oil. Not sure how much pressure that would be if the piezo is say 1 foot under oil.

According to the DIY, it seems a relatively large crystal with uneven features still prevails ( so much for the di-lithium di-lemma )..

Anyhow, I've mentioned the plaster of paris here.  Why not set the crystal in that placing a thin electrode to contour the outer surface and then filling in the incongruities with plaster ( which can take some pressure btw ).

This could easily be formed in such a way that you have an uneven crystal and an even contact, and well as a even mount.

I suppose the best thing to do would have two separate sides so that the plaster doesn't join and prevent flexing of the crystal, pour them independently; make sure that the electrodes contact the surface properly, and their leads are appropriate.

One could also use the compression of two magnets to apply pressure.

I like the 2 magnets idea...good thinking.  This would allow any orientation as opposed to using gravity.
