My question is who made the laws of thermodynamics?
Did the U.S. congress make these laws?

TinselKoala

Yep, and if you break them you will go to jail.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermodynamics
and scroll down to "history".

Hi Brien, my understanding of the laws of thermodynamics is that they were created as an axiom, which basicly means that if nobody has been able to prove it wrong then it must be true. These days it's though in schools as a theorem which means it's a fact.

Albert Einstein once said that if the facts don't fit your theory ,then change the facts.
I think that that is what we're trying to do with gravity powered devices

The Laws of Thermodynamics were written by Lord Kelvin . Oh wait a moment , wasnt that the same guy who wrote a mathematical proof that man would never fly?

good point but kelvin just wrote down what others before him had said... see sadi carnot and his father, they were years ahead of rudolph clausius and william thomson (baron kelvin).

as an aside, it is interesting, maybe even telling that all this was based upon assuming that heat was a gas that could be neither created nor destroyed...  ;)
