@cousinles:

Sounds promising! I hope you get setup and can run some tests that you can share with us soon.

What type of metal/shield material are you using in the center part?

i used a piece of stainless steel on my first project. You can use any magnetic material as long the the thickness is right. if you go to thick the magnets will want to attract to the shield if you go to thin the the magnets will repel each other to early. the height of the shield is critical as well. you want the magnets to start repelling each other just as the are moving away from the top of the shield.

I tried to build this motor but i could not with the tools that I have. these parts have to be cut out very precise or the motor binds up. I am now working on a desktop cnc mill so I can cut the parts out of plastic and try to build it again. as far as the sticky spot I do not think there will be one because there was not one on the first motor that I built, I just could not get it to spin without binding.

Did you try to cintact @CLaNZeR at overunity.org.uk? He is one of the greatest builders in this forum and recently he offered to help the fellow OU researchers with his CNC machine for a nominal fee. Hope you'll be able to build this device and see the potential problems (or maybe be lucky to see it working) in real life. Good luck.

clanzer does nice work but i am building my own cnc to build this. I just have to finish my z axis and it will be done. I am replicating this one http://bluumaxcnc.homestead.com/BluumaxCNC.html hopefully in the mean time clanzer or someone else will like the idea of my mag motor and build it.

Ive always wondered if the trick is in the design too. For example most of us know how a motor works,,and whats in it,,how the coil is wound and so forth right..And most of us know that if you spin a motor by hand hooked to a meter you get electricity,,since it then works like a generator. But have you ever seen a motor that is made to be a motor and a generator both at the same time???? It would just need to be two motors in one,,with the coil wound so that the coils dont oppose each other,,which is all in the winding..Then the motor would have four wires coming out of it,,two wires power it as a motor,,the other two wires producing electricity as it also acts like a generator..Something to think about,,would work I think,,just a thought...
