I had a serious setback.  My oscilloscope shot craps on me and I can't afford to have it serviced at this time.  The fuse did not blow and the on light still lights up when the machine is turned on.  Also, you can hear a slight hum of the transformer inside the unit.  There is no longer the presence of a trace on the CRT screen.  You can see lights inside the screen if you fully illuminate the trace switch, but the CRT screen no longer operates.  So, I don't know what went south with my machine and am still trying to ascertain that.  I've been reviewing a lot of oscilloscope troubleshooting manuals but so far to no avail.  Anyway, I wanted to let you know I was still alive and still interested in this project.

Power To Be left so many interesting tangents to look into that I've been having a hard time just focusing on the project at hand.  I want it all and he opened my eyes to many things but the research takes a lot of time and I still haven't figured out how to tap the higher self to the degree I'd like to.  My knowledge is gaining in that area but I'm still not there yet.

David, What a bummer but if I were in your shoes, I think I'd crack it open and look for a bad solder joint at the HV supply. Couldn't hurt :'(

Textron,

Thanks for the help.   It's a very nice scope and I really don't want to get rid of it so I'll have a look at it.

Best Regards,
Slovenia

Hi Textron,

After taking my scope apart and checking the transformer, my scope is now giving me a split second trace on screen when I flip the time/div switch.  The trace is there for a split second and then gone.  Do you have any idea what this means?  Thanks for your help.

The trace is all over the place too, not just in the same place every time I switch the time/div switch around.  Thanks.

Best Regards,
Slovenia
