Although the replications that you mention may work in a somewhat similar manner, the one that is possible for me personally to build is the second to last Akula video model. That is what I'm focusing on, as it is the one that I'm most congruent with in its approach. No spark gap, no noise, and possibly little or no RF interference. When I saw it, I fell in love with it. Love is blind... Or is it?

If you learn working principles behind device then tune everything properly it won't be blind...

You will need to calculate wire length to match impedance for each coil in air core transformer. That depends on what frequency you will use.
