Alas, my replacement 0.1 CSR's have arrived but because I have a ground connection on one side of them I now can't look at the voltage across C1! Third ground. Any suggestions?

As for the Scope it is a Fluke PM 3092 without a manual!! So I don't know whether you can multiply Ch1 and 2.

Hi all,
Having very little time on my hands at the moment and for the next months, but i wanted to replicate GeoFusion's roundcore experiments as i had almost all parts at hand.

The setup now (after first using 2x transistors MJE3055 and only the 1K resistors which barely lighted the 60W / 220V bulb), is the MOSFETs IRFP260N Royer circuit mentioned here (second picture):

Data on the yoke is:

Clips removed, insulated both halfs by black electrical tape 1 piece each side.
Hold together by 2 wraps of electrical tape on top and bottom.

secondary (black wire 1.5mm2) 36 turns / 430uH
primary   (blue  wire 2.5mm2) 2x 13 turns / 2x 40uH

cap 376nF
choke 220uH

It seems to work in 2 modes, the "normal mode":
Supply 12V (11,8 when operating) pulling 550mA giving 104V p2p sine wave at 10KHz

and in "special mode" after fiddling with the 12V lead:
Supply 12V (11.5 when operating) pulling >1A giving 576V pulses at 1.490 KHz

When time permits i will make some more measurements (current in "special mode") and increasing the wattage at the load etc.

   Glad that you had some good results.
   How bright is the light bulbs on that circuit when compared to the grid source?

Great replication and thnx for putting some measurements too .
As you can see the yoke has to ring for it to work, Btw keep in a look out for the Toroid Choke, sins it gets a bit hot as you got the smell of it.

The IRFP260N's are doing great, Also try different Caps to it. I used 0.33uf 630V poly's
The smaller Mosfets i used are the IRFZ34N found at radioshack. But prefer the larger ones.

Should try it on the other yoke too, as for now me and Nick discovered that each yoke has a difference depending from where you got them.

Try within this current setup you have with some more bulbs Parallel Itsu,  and Try 24 volts also if you can. But be carefull with the toroid.


@Nick:
           Yes, Those are Diodes, should look for the right Mosfets . It's alright, anyone can make some mistakes man hehe.
           Lets continue on progress, I will post some new stuff soon, and to rebuild  the original circuit of round core for you
           guyz to see again .
