If you use a normal battery under normal circumstances you will need a huge current discharge from battery (166A) and this not explain the output of circuits like akula and others show ... or the caps discharge are not full with normal currents like people expect.

Hi , as some personage will say : it receive by radio signal.  i'm joking of course but maybe this particularly person will say this
Not use batteries and i can run without the 9v battery start pulse. It can run with a stroke magnet in a coil like Akula show but i don't see any goal on that start system at this moment.

In this you ask what gives the Phase shift, It's the VFO to the phase lock division at zero cross, look at the chip data.

Also your schismatic of various types of out put drives, where did you get them from ? if they were true where they cross-over, they would self destruct and or excessive over heating would occur, as the one side turns off the other is turning on so at mid point bang! Usually a propagation delay of an XOR gate is used to prevent this sad state happening and the 494 device does not allow you to operate it in that mode and does not have a wave form like that because of its dead zone   it might save you some money.

  In any case, that would be something to see, as it means not even having to use a 9v battery to start with. Therefore, NO external man made power source to trigger it even just to start it.  Starts with just a magnet. Right?  WOW!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

the battery only provide the pulse to start . See the video at minute 13:16 i measure the input where i pulse with the battery see with attention on start and after the measure voltage and then when stop .
   
make this pulse with a magnet but not in main coil but in other coil that need to be configured to the effect.
but what is the goal of that ? in my early circuit i made with the a piezoelectric of a burner to start the oscillation of circuit
