Allthough I have not much contributed to the subject , specialy this ferite with copper rod inside , a HV thin wire coil wound on the outside and a unipolar sparc applied to that coil is a setup which tiger recommends. On top there are wound the input and output coil. Somewhere mentioned that the magnetic field strenth should be at least one Tesla.Tiger says he has achieved OU with this setup and that it does not work with iron, but with ferite core but not every type of ferite core.
This setup is the archetype of kapanadze replication done by tiger and sr193.
There is another one on realstrannik: reda (replication reda) a red clown avatar
he uses a pile of magnet rings and collects the flyback obviously with ou.
I have only done the HV flyback part, which is best done with a joule thief setup,
so the flyback generates the HV and the spark is small and does not consume much power.
