Hi,

Do you mind posting the proof of resultant non-zero force?
I'm asking because I believe the resultant is zero but maybe my calculus is a bit rusty...
Please make the simplest assumptions: ideal liquid, incompressible, laminar flow, no viscosity, no adherence to the walls etc.

Well, the problem is force is a vector so the resultant force needs to be computed as vector integral over each half of the torus. So, although the generic formulas are ok, I'd say it does not serve your purposes in the way you use them in their scalar form... On contrary, they are misleading you toward the wrong conclusion.

On the other hand, I don't get another point about the device presented in the movie. What does the rotation have to do with the cause of anti-gravitation here?
If the device is to perform as advertised (which I strongly doubt), it should weight less (or more), depending on where the fan is positioned. That would be easily provable with a scale. Or, in another configuration, the effect would lead the device to deflect from the vertical with an angle, easily observable too. I'd like to see either case proved. It should be fairly easy, shouldn't it? It's intriguing it hasn't been done already, especially when considering the device is already there, at hand. I feel the movie stopped exactly when it was about to give the big answer, be it positive or negative. My best guess? If the lid is positioned and properly sealed, there will be no change in weight.
Anyway, the rotation shown in the movie is just artifact of the air flowing out, due to fan and the shape of the open container...
