@techstuff your hand waving is nonsensical.

If the magnets are attracting there is a point they will 'lock' to each other if they are repelling the same will happen (often called the sticky point). If the magnets are offset in such a way that at any one point they both attract and repel just perfectly so you can feel no drag. Then no energy can be derived from them.

Let me put it like this. You cannot use hands to measure energy required. we subconsciously alter the muscle strength when pushing or pulling on whatever. So we cannot tell the actual force used. Our muscles are only very roughly calibrated. Secondly we cannot help but 'waver', our arms and hands and whole body is not rigid enough.

All those youtube videos where someone is holding a magnet and making another magnet spin. Its just their hands moving back and forward (sometimes imperceptably) that is providing the energy.

You need a totally rigid structure to accurately do what you are saying and get a meaningful measurement. So no more hand waving stuff its just counterproductive.

Now back to the experiment. Say we set up a completely rigid mechanism (except of course where we want it to rotate or slide), Such as the one you describe. We position the magnets in such a way that although quite close the added effect of attraction and repulsion reduced the drag to nil or almost nil. Therefore we have a fluctuating magnetic field generated with almost no energy input (you can do exactly the same thing with just one magnet it will be as meaningful). What do you think will happen as soon as you add some pickup coils to generate electricity?

If you aren't able to work it out for yourself I'll tell you.

It would introduce drag. Now your freely rotating sliding or whatever mechanisms requires energy to make it move. more energy than you can possibly extract from it.
