A miracle? what are the spark gaps you have? 1kv is not going to jump very far and try a coil with just 3 or 4 winds to start with.

what is cutting the mustard ?

Your sho0wing bucking coils you do know there are rules that need to be obeyed to that type of windings like resonance and harmonics
and you can lose what you have to start with if you're not careful.
