I think many may be misinterpreting what Mark is saying or wanting to convey.

I believe the message he is trying to get across is that a voltage increase alone is somewhat meaningless without an accompanying current and time measurement, preferably simultaneously, as in 'instantaneous power measurements'.

Which has more energy from the same energized coil, an inductive kickback spike through a 1M load (high voltage output), or one through a 1 Ohm load (low voltage output)?

More energy is dissipated over the 1Mohm load-and less over the coil.
Less energy is dissipated over the 1ohm load-and more over the coil.
The total energy dissipated by both the coil and load is the same in either case.
