ran through optical isolaters / couplers.

An electric to light then back to electric conversion.

No load matching would then be needed for the final electrical output ?

Added
   Load matching may not be the right choice of words, but there would be no feed back
to the source.  Unless the solar cells emited light and the LEDs collected it.

Optical couplers  can only transfer a signal, not power.  There has to be a separate power source on the output side of the coupler.
