Facts  about WW2 are mentioned  as  affecting science  and  technology due to loss of its valuable  members and activists.
_{Example:  Katyn massacre https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katyn_massacre was mentioned because Soviets killed there   plenty of  intellectuals , professors, and professionals.}
