Hi Matt,
were you told by someone to make a video that lasts 50 minutes?
I think you could have squeazed this into about 5 minutes.

Is the core metal soft iron?
Because, surely when you remove the battery the field will collapse and the keeper will be easy to remove.  It appears as if you have permanently magnetised the core metal.
Are you saying that once the keeper is removed it is no longer attracted to the U core?
