push or pull...that is the question

I've been doing dome simple experiments using a rote with strong neo magnets all the way around the diameter and all north facing out. Using a simple reed switch I'm able to get the rotor to spin at high speeds. Using the normal north to north pole push from the switched coil. I then discovered that I was able to get even higher speeds using the other side of the coil (south pole when switched) using what I can only guess as a pulling or attraction mode from the coil....I was under the impression that these rotors could only be spun using the pushing of like poles.....Am I missing something here ???

Please post a drawing and perhaps I can help you explain this....
But you should know that attraction mode is a lot stronger than repel mode between magnets.

I think the issue is not about push or pull.  Magnets really don't push... they are trying to realign to atraction.  They want to be in atraction.

When you face 2 same poles, they just don't like each other.  Try putting a magnet in a table, and use other magnet facing the one on the table with the same pole... the magnet in the table will jump and probably will stick to your finger really hard.

So we get 2 conclusions from these experiments:
1-Magnets are not gay.
2-They tend to hurt your fingers when you are trying to force them to be gay.

Of course - if you use N/S/N/S mags rather than all N - you can use BOTH push and pull....

(With a N coil - pulsed just as the N mag passes, pushes - while attracting the S magnet at the same time - 2 for 1 - then stop current to coil so S can pass by)

these are all NORTH facing out and the coil is of course N or S depending on the side I'm using.

Like I said, it's a simple 8 magnet rotor about a 4" diameter. I get great rpm speed in repulsive mode N-N but even greater speeds in attraction mode N-S......I was under the impression that these motors were meant to run in repulsive mode and if so then why am I getting better speeds in attraction?
