My theory is Steorn did not know enough about free energy to do what he was doing.
His devices probably worked in his LAB with 50Hz AC wallwart leakage fields, and into
that they were optimized. But then failed to perform in the museum. 60Hz. chaotic leakage
nodes from the museum exhibits etc, nice that the museum building was apparently torn
down immediately after Steorn exhibit. Immediately upon seeing that this devices were
not working it clued Steorn that his devices were operating from environmental fields
rather than the magnetic ZPE necessary for success. And since you cannot just redesign
something for free energy he saw all, and knew that his organization was screwgled...
MIB's surely do their work in strange ways.

So, boys and girls, let that be a leason, radiate your work widely to get as many eyes on it as
possible, One person does not know all theory.

Heretic!  You are way off the path of circular logic.  Here is the proper mantra.

1.  Free energy exists but is suppressed.
2.  How do we know it is suppressed?  Well, there is no evidence of it, so it must be suppressed.

One thing to keep in mind is that govn'ts do intentionally release disinformation to confuse the public. They will release a fabricated conspiracy theory to off-set the factual ones. This is intended to make believers seem to others as if they're off their rocker.

If I were to come up with a free energy system, believe me, I would keep it totally to myself until it was working very well, then I would post the documentation of it, in multitude, to every forum, webpage, email,  etc I could so that hopefully all of them could not be destroyed by govn't/corporations before the public had gotten their hands on it. THAT, IMO is the only way to beat this control thing.

BTW, do yourselves a favor and watch some videos on the "Council on Foreign Relations". Google for it. Scary stuff!
