My understanding is that after level/density/dimension 4 it's not straight forward (linear) anymore. So it becomes kind of infinite, something most of us have difficulty to comprehend. So they introduces some more or less arbitrary levels so our minds can at least partially follow. A simplification. And not every being uses the same kind of simplification, and this results in different numbers. But the overall idea should be about the same (and again, depending on level of awareness and "perspective", doesn't have to be). It's pretty flexible ? that makes it so difficult to fit it into our fixed rules for what science (currently) is.

I'm sure many here will have seen this video interview before, but a lot of what Alex Collier says resonates with the sentiments expressed here - and after watching it, you will probably agree that he certainly believes it!  It's actually pretty dated now and quite a few of the predictions he made didn't come to pass, but it's still good stuff imo...
