my idea orients around using replication in a manner to completely eliminate the need for even small factories which would be needed to create smaller parts like microchips. Although Reprap would be one of the first steps, hopefully it will work it's way into atomic-precision and scale possibly similar to the "Tractor Beam" that was developed at MIT that could move cells on silicon chips.
