I will retract a little;
The current in near wires (primary/secondary etc near windings) will be in the same direction.  I got + and - potential and current flow confused at one point and have until now conveyed that; saying the forward current leveraged against near, causing a reverse current.


edit: unless of course, the coils are counter wound...


I was hesitant to start the expirament; for lack of information... inevitably there will be something wrong with what I've done.  Too many leads; no soldered parts... etc etc.

The lit side is negative.
If both sides light up you have ac.
Simply energize the coil with the battery and release.
The bemf will reverse polarity and soar to over 100v.


Maybe now you realize that Dave 45 was correct.
I respect him, he's done a huge number of experiments including freezing a coil to see the lines of force.
To maintain the ne2 you need a Tesla  switch.
When I demoed this to a retired British Telecom engineer he realized he knew nothing about radiant energy.

I guess your circuit works also; you don't get as much power to flow across the neon, since it's the positive satisfying the positive left by the current continuing to flow through the coil... so it's offset by 1.2V (1.54? whatever)

Edit: I don't mean to do the worst thing possible; challenge one's beliefs... or even bring into question for clarification... I don't mean offense; it's not in the art of trolling for posting just to post. 


I respect all of you equally, some more than others ( I don't know how I got to be 'senior member' because I'll be forever noob).  But none less.... Verpies for instance... I have to remember to be clear in stating what I did know and what specifically I was questioning...


Maybe I should be more direct about when I mean to state that the respect for someone is slipping (Like Tito; but that was easily fixed) and when I just mean to challenge the belief in view of what I know is happening from experimentation...


Yes frozen coils are cool; but I get the same in a bottle of water; if I freeze it in an insulator I get less fractures; and the last part of the ice is the core, which always freezes last... so it's an artifact of ice being smaller than water when frozen, so the later things to freeze end up occupying less volume and simulating a frozen vortex.  Was it energized?  was there some indicator in the water that was affected by the (DC) field; (because and AC field would destroy any alignment... except at the instance it froze, although it may introduce turbidity and keep it from freezing until it gets to a lower tempurature, and make a cleaner crystal
