When a coil is wound in the normal "back and forth" layers.... you never reverse direction, you are always winding either CW or CCW. Point the thumb of your hand along the wire and watch which way your fingers curl. Slide your hand along the wire, you will find that the "curl" of your fingers is always in the same direction. Or simply watch what direction you turn the crank of your coil winder... you never reverse it, each layer, back and forth, is wound in the same direction.

If you take a long wire and double it by folding it at the center, so both ends are in your hand and the fold is at the distance... then wind this onto a form, you will have a coil that "reverses sense" because if you do the thumb and fingers trick again you will see that the sense of curvature of your fingers reverses at the fold. This form of winding is called "hairpin bifilar" and is a good way to make a non-inductive or reduced inductance coil, as the "fingers" of one half counteract the "fingers" of the other half. You can cut the wire at the fold, and now you can make a true Tesla bifilar winding out of it by taking the "fold" end of one wire and connecting it to the free end of the other wire. Now, once again your "sense" is the same all the way around, either CW or CCW, but you will have increased energy storage in inter-winding capacitance.

When you wind your next conventional coil think of a particle moving in one direction away from you traveling in the wire when you reach the end and start winding back turn the coil around and notice the direction of the winding, remember the particle is moving through the wire away from you. You have to look at it from the particle's perspective.
