just need 2 coils.. they don't have to be coupled; the air coil rodin coils worked really well; other coils also worked ok; pancake was better than solenoid

EMF doesn't reverse the current....
The third coil beyond the diode will never get a current flow, because it will more likely draw current from the ground since that's lower resistance; lower... reactive inductance

The current in the secondary will change direction; current in the primary is always the same direction; current in the extra coil will be limited; after it charges to the positive supply it won't have as much effect

Your right emf doesnt reverse the current, a collapsing magnetic field from a negatively pulsed coil is high voltage and it does run the other direction.
The same will be true for the open ended coil but its bemf will be current.
Time will tell, Im gonna build it.

a building field is against current so current doesn't instantaneously flow
a collapsing field keeps the current going in the same direction...

a field that is induced by this changing flow will flow positive and negative but the original didn't suddenly go backwards

how much does it go backwards?

If as a train starts, it has a little slack and can accelerate quickly, then slower and slower as the cars play more of a role...
when the train engine stops, the cars will back up behind the train and keep it going forward... (plz?)show one example that current in a coil doesn't do exactly that?
