Judging what SR already has stated what the transistors are supposed to do
it is easier to narrow their purpose.

Many people think, that 50Hz output from secondary winding is impossible. It's wrong. There is using PNP and NPN bipolar transistors, each on their half-wave.

He also states that the waveform is sinusoid.

They are then maybe part of an inverter circuit to drive the HV transformer.
That suggests then a half bridge arrangement and they are an NPN and a PNP.
What he said about not building vibrational circuits related to the typical Tesla coil LC oscillator to achieve electrical resonance.
There are 2 fixed inductors visible (where the red wires off the middle pins lead) that could point to a pwm sine wave inverter with a filter stage consisting of these inductors (and capacitor)
Maybe that little circuit board on the far right is the PWM driver, not sure. Hard to see.

Not sure however about that white wire going to the coil from the right transistor in the context of that.

The wiring is indeed difficult to see and also what is under the transistors

Hehe this is a real good guessing game.
Judging from the shape of the 2 black components i would say that those
are inductors and not capacitors which have perfectly tubular walls.
Any opinions about that?

EDIT: It then seems that only during one half wave he is sending something through a portion of the output transformer (via the white wires).
So a flux that only goes into one direction is generated from that coil maybe.

It also talks about how Stefan said the timing should be done, with an optoisolator of some kind, "comparitor". That I would really like to see a schematic of how that circuit should be made.
This makes clear sense to me. The swing analogy works. so does swimming down river instead of up river.

Quite  interesting .*doc you attached.
A middle tapped, counter wound coil is being utilized called "Tesla amplifier coil". The SR, video has a middle taped coil. Yet the "kicker" it is suggested is there. This makes the coil unbalanced having more wirings in one end that another.
Yet, we have the core issue. Not loose magnetic fields as air-core coils. Hence stronger magnetic fluxes,lower frequencies.
