The double frequency is not bad news.
If you consider the magnetic field that your primary windings are generating, you will notice that the core halves are attracting twice per cycle.
You can visualize that to yourself by scoping currents in the primary windings ( via two 0.1Ω current sensing resistors [CSR] ).

Put both scope probes' ground clips on the common junction A and the probe tips on the other sides of CSRs at points B and C and you will see the phase difference of current flowing in each winding half (from vantage of point A as the datum).

Assuming that both primary windings are wound Clockwise: If the primary currents flow in the same direction then the core halves will be repelled (Diag.6a and 6b), and if the primary currents flow in opposite directions then the core halves will be attracted (Diag.5a and 5b).  Notice how many times per cycle the attraction mode happens and you will have an eureka moment.

P.S.
Your lens on the video camera is dirty or scratched, thus the picture was unclear and I could not see where the core split was.
If the split is under primary windings, then currents flowing in the same direction (from the vantage of point A) will not be able to cause repulsion of core halves.

Hello guys,

Several issues were mentioned last pages naming long wires acting as "antennas" and when hit by the "spark" voltage is boosted.

@baroutologos, Thanks for reference, I noticed June 17th 1899 talking about lenghths of Earth wires 1/4 wave etc being very important.
