I agree if the current is from ground, in other words if this system is open like in patent I posted lately. There is voltage difference between ground and above ground  and seems that clever build tesla coil can imitate long antenna without going very high.

Different things.
In quoted patent an atmospheric voltage difference changes are utilised, 100V/m by just switching on/off ground switch. Electric field lines are "dancing" and induce currents in conductors. I am not sure what kind of power you can get out of it.
In Tesla style resonant system- source amplitude is trapped into additive scenario at secondary coil, and we have an extra voltage gain compared to "normal" transformer action.
That "extra" voltage we just step down in normal transformer way, and we have a "extra" current in exchange of that "extra" voltage.

The answer is: impedance match.
The output from generator is 50 Ohm
impedance of LED is:

At the transition point about 12MHz, the AC impedance is pure resistance at a value of near 1.5Ω. Moreover,
the AC impedance spectrum of the LED tends to shift towards the lower frequency with the larger received optical power.

Output of generator is 20V
if LED needs 12 V you can increase current  by ~x2 .


Frequency used is 4MHz - but in square  wave.

A square wave is a non-sinusoidal periodic waveform in which the amplitude alternates at a steady frequency between fixed minimum and maximum values, ..

made from  number of sinusoidal waveforms.
At given  power in W and 20V you can calculate  current that  generator or  power supply must supply - but  what if not?
Using transformer  to lower the voltage increases the  current. P= U x I
1W=20Vx 0.05A
1W=12Vx 0.08 A
1W=6V  x 0.16 A
Example: LED working on 2.72V  may take current of 3A
but is very bright at 1A too.
Typical Generator gives not less than 2W usually 3W
3W=2.72Vx 1.1A
so having 2.72V at the output of the transformer make LED work well
or just  give it  little more V and less current if you will.



Coil assembly on the picture is a step down transformer impedance matching
of a complex harmonic product  as in the output of the transformer you no longer  have  square wave but more like  sine  wave distorted.
That is why LED at the output of that transformer is powered with   lower voltage and higher current.
That is   entire explanation.

As far as claimed  in  video 1/2  Y lambda resonance...
Well at 4MHz the length of the wire for  _{1/2 Y} in the "long" coil had to be37m and 47 cm.
and it is not.( the  actual coil length at ~80 winds  5cm per wind is only   4m)
but even if he had (actual coil length at ~80 winds  10cm per wind is only 8m)
The gentleman  on that video didn't show the generator screen when LED is ON.
He had oscilloscope next to the generator but he "decided" not to show us the output curve.

The total impedance value :
-is to be understood as a resistance of ~0.7 Ohm in that particular coil assembly  making that step down transformer
plus inductive reactance in the actual wire  gauge ~12
plus small capacitive reactance between winds.  that is approximately ADDITIONAL 13.55%
or if we take actual 2.72V for LED we'll get 13.6%

The quoted old book doesn't use  word "impedance"  highly likely not known yet at that time,  to the author if it.
