A model is discussed for magnetoelectric (ME) effects in a single-crystal ferriteâ€"piezoelectric bilayer on a substrate. The specific focus is on coupling at magneto-acoustic resonance (MAR) at the coincidence of ferromagnetic resonance in the ferrite and thickness modes of the electromechanical resonance in the piezoelectric. The clamping effect of the substrate has been considered in determining the ME voltage coefficient and applied to a model system of a bilayer of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) and yttrium iron garnet (YIG) on a gadolinium gallium garnet substrate. The theory predicts a giant ME effect at MAR due to interaction and transfer of energy between elastic modes and the uniform precession spin-wave mode. It is shown that the ME coupling strength decreases with increasing substrate thickness. Estimates for YIGâ€"PZT for nominal film parameters predict MAR at 5 GHz and ME coefficients on the order of 5â€"70 V cmâˆ'1 Oeâˆ'1. The phenomenon is of importance for the realization of multifunctional ME sensors and transducers operating at microwave frequencies.

Tesla's 'extra coil' was outside the inductive coupling range, and was excited by other means. We've played with a small Tesla coil sitting within the electrostatic field of a big Tesla coil, but outside direct inductive coupling, using an independent ground. It gets quite active. No real sense of how the extra coil 'loads' the main coil, but it seems that if you keep it at a distance, it doesn't load the main coil. So it is clear that electrostatic fields can induce resonance pretty well. Having the two at right angles would ensure that the coupling was purely electrostatic, not magnetic.


Thinking about Cosmo's experiment....

The high voltage high frequency coil will generate a strong electrostatic field. Is it possible that the electrostatic field has a stronger effect on the magnetic domains of the ferrite than the magnetic field from the low voltage coil? Possibly affecting the ferrite at an atomic level? If it were an electrostatic effect, and not a magnetic effect, that suggests that a magnetic field could be switched off with no real power dissipation. I can think of many good uses for that. Big question is whether it is frequency dependent (atomic resonance) or field intensity dependent (big voltage). Care to comment Cosmo?

just try experiment what i provide, for simplicity in the second coil put 12v 50Hz signal, place near coil a magnet and you will be hear effect with HV and without HV - just try it. (domains i not really understand how they turning and doing the job, I'm not atomic engineer - this explaining come from SR, i only constating a fact... time goes and i realise that there are more than only domains or SR not telling all - and SR hide it for very strong reasons and i understand why it hide it)

anyway, i write book, and after two, three weeks i think i finish it. there you will find very interesting things about ED.Leedskalnin's and some other stuff - mostly about Free energy phenomena and why there are metaphysics background behind the scenes - by the way, some facts are explaining Tesla i only collecting it together based on my experience and researches.

My ferrite is still days away and my overseas stock will not arrive until the end of October, I guess its a customs thing.

Also I spoke in error regarding Cosmos wiring diagram. The dots represent a common polarity. Has anyone tried the experiment?
