Hi,

i need a single 3000 volts connection but my neon sign transformer has two 1500 volts connections, i am a newbie, so i am confused,
can i get two high voltage diodes and connect the two outputs to a single wire to get a single 3000 volts connection. i want the other end to be ground that is why i am not connecting the two outputs across.
can anyone help if the diode idea would work or not? please??????

You should be able to hook them in series to obtain 3,000 volts but, my question is, if you are not sure what you are doing, why are you messing with 3,000 volt equipment?

I am talking safety here, I am not making fun of you at all.  3 years ago, I knew hardly anything about this type of electronics.  But, I did, and still do, know my limitations which is why I will not mess with a MOT or anything like that that can kill me if I make a simple mistake. (which I am most likely to do)

Just be careful and do NOT take my advice on the series hook-up of the two 1,500 volts circuits without others opinions that know much more than I.

But use variac to not over volt them, otherwise you may burn them out

thanks pirate and dole but

i have only one neon transformer. it is 3000 volts 30 milli amps. mid point grounded. so it has two outputs 1500 volts each. i want to join these outputs to a wire so that i can get 3000 volts in one single wire.
now if i join them to a single wire may be there will be high reverse voltage induced by the outputs against each other, that is why i think that two diodes may be necessary.
please feel free to give your thoughts on this idea. actually what i want to do is convert a mid point grounded transformer(two outputs) to a n-point grounded transformer (one output).
So will the diodes work? and i get what i want.
