If you research coronal losses on high voltage transmission lines you find that the only time they amount to losses is when a current flows from the transmission line to ground or to an oppositely charged conductor through the plasma created by the efield.  This field is totally wasted and neglected in closed circuit evaluation.  This event acts along the entire length of the conductor while the electrons going through the load are domino effect electrons from electrons jammed into the crossection of the wire miles away.  It is the equivalent of blowing up a balloon with a tiny hole on the other end.  We use the current coming out of the tiny hole and not the actual displacement of the balloon itself.
