There is no sign in the videos that TK used a large cap bank to run the green box and aqua1 devices, so I think it more likely that he ran low voltage AC from a remote transformer into a step-up transformer, where it caused an overload condition when the lamp load was applied - e.g., 40V AC into a 24V tapping of the step-up transformer. The lamps initially appeared to light very brightly and then dim somewhat. Another avenue for experimentation!

The lower waveform leads the upper one by approximately 30º and is clipped with a slightly increasing linear ramp.  Besides the clipping, the lower waveform appears more triangular than sinusoidal and slightly less in amplitude but equal in frequency.
