What makes you think there is anything unusual in that video? I see a capacitor being charged to the voltage of two batteries, then it runs an LED or two for a while. Does anyone see something different? Please explain why you think that video is significant in any way. Other than, once again, demonstrating scope abuse, of course.

If you think that kind of performance indicates OU, you are in the wrong thread. The Joule Thief threads have devices in them that far, FAR outperform that device in that video.

I should not be discussing about Joule thief circuit in this thread.But that picture is real or believe to be workable.
It's no hair pin at the back of neon lights although at a glance it look like one until i noticed it's a high voltage diode likely around 400v to 1000v.
Since i know the breakdown voltage of each small neon light is around 50v so multiply by 6 lights it's  definitely more than 300volts connected in parallel with diode.
The only thing that was not necessary is the heat sink for the 2n3055 transistor since it's merely running from 1AAA battery.

For anyone planning to buy hv capacitors i noticed ebay tend to put free shippment for many items but in fact the shippment is not free.Shippment cost will be revealed to you if you staying outside the seller's country.This happen only after you already bid for the item.Ouch.

Only country i know in ebay that truly offer free worldwide shipment where free is indicated is Hong Kong ,China maybe Taiwan but rare to spot one.

The diode is 1n4005.
The NE-2 lights at 90-91 volts, actually, so there is over 500 volts available there. Without the neons in place I measure about 640 volts in the spikes at the output.

The components on this side of the battery are the wireless receiver components, not used in the photo. It's running on the AAA battery in the photo, but this JT can run wirelessly as well.
The heatsink is not necessary.... but you have to admit, it looks "cool" !!

I only posted this here because of the video posted above. Sarcasm? I dunno, but showing an electrolytic capacitor running an LED is not very impressive to me, so I asked why that video was presented as any kind of proof of OU.

Please elaborate on this as to how how you think Tariel used this method in the 'Green Box' garden video. In particular, where would the power supply have been located for the Royer oscillator?

After posting Antanas /LITHUANIA circuit diagram and digging through some youtube videos.

I have spoken at length with two of the members involved with the schematic and video that you have recently posted. I can confirm that there was a little more out than in.

However and it is a big however, the circuit is very tricky to tune and relies heavily on "mass ballance" of caduceus coil to secodary output coil. ( Element six  ) Another keynote is that the Flyback T2 should not have any diodes and the output is split via an Avremenko plug. C21 would also need to be a variable vacuum capacitor rated for the applied voltage to fine tune the coil. T2's primary is best fed with a Sawtooth wave!!

T-1000 also stated that this schematic was posted a long way back on this thread, maybe this revisit, with new eyes and constructors, will bear some fruit??
