As with all things in the goverment it has to be a proven technology to work... Being in Oz i don't many of the problems you guys have in USA. We have a simple no un-authorized modifacation policy unless you have permits. But being as i believe that all your states have different rules and regs for roads i would just call them and be specific. Also as there is no industry standard for safety on the units there can not be a single rule. eg a Glass jar setup would be extremly dangerous in a car but i am sure a well made cell with safety features that are far beyond what is considered industry standard for the containment, transportation and use of combustible gases would need special permits but would be a lot safer.

thanks for that ce
your info is useful in that it helps give me a picture of govt attitude
towards non-oil fueled machines
im british actually-can someone please give info about if its illegal
on uk roads?
i have a rough blueprint for a 100% waterpowered bike and car
im interested about what the rules are exactly because i hope to
sell do it yourself kits (fuel cell pre-built) just needs to be bolted on
and timing set

@crazyewok
better look up the WA government in Australia, thyey forced a hydrogen boost company out of business as the unit could not do as it claimed. They also put out a warning to any company that comes into existance in the future. However for the homebrew people all is ok still.
I also believe any booster using KOH or any other high alkaline material is illegal in California. However I have not read the legislation.

In the Unites States' (as in "Plural" lol), there are 50 different regulations. And several States even have different rules for different areas, such as testing in Urban areas but not Rural, and for different car ages. So it would fully be determined by the regional regulations. Some States have no mandatory emissions or road safety testing at all for private vehicles.

There are currently NO Federal laws banning hydroxy YET that i have heard of.

GEET and Vaporization is a different matter, because they often use the heat of the exhaust. This is a gray area with differing interpretations which have not been ironed out by Legal Precedent yet; because "exhaust tampering" has been illegal under Fed law since the advent of the cat boxes.... Ironically, this restriction hurts gasoline vaporization and GEET use; which lower emissions much more than a cat box ever could. I think it would take a Legal Case to reach at least a District Federal Appeals Court to set a Precedent on whether simple heat exchange is considered "tampering" or not.
